Art Concentration: Appropriation of Iconic Art Pt. 5

I have chosen to do a small part of Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam and focused more on the most important part of the artwork: the space between God's and Adam's fingers which distinguishes the destinct role of the giver and receiver of life. I decided to mechanicalize the hands, attempting to challenge and see if it will have the same impact as 2 anatomical hands. I've carried on the technique of pixellation, and contrasted the squares by having different levels and mounted on a background similar to the original art.

Art Concentration: Appropriation of Iconic Art Pt. 4

This was the 2nd piece I did for my concentration, an appropriation of Time Transfixed by surrealist René Magritte. I explored the technique of pointillism as a way of pixellation, which ties in with the overall theme of my concentration.  In the original oil painting, a black train was jutting ut of the fireplace, and I replaced it with a robotic arm.

This piece is a response to Banksy's Laugh Now, But One Day We'll Be In Charge street art. There's an element of animation and I was highly inspired by post apocalyptic astronaut meets Darth Vader.

Art Concentration: Appropriation of Iconic Art Pt. 2

This is my version of Andy Warhol's iconic print of Marilyn Monroe. I added subtle details as if she was robotic, silver skin tone, golden hair and metal patchwork, while keeping the essence of the original prints by keeping it simple. In contrast to the original prints, I made it a bit 'raw' and unclean to juxtapose with the perfectness of the original image.

Art Concentration: Appropriation of Iconic Art Pt. 1

Since I haven't had the chance to create new images, I thought I'd share some of the artworks I've done in the past.

For my concentration, I focused on appropriation of iconic artworks from the past, and reconstructing it with a sci-fi twist. For this one, American Gothic by Grant Wood, my inspiration came from post-apocalyptic imagery and pixellation.
